Jennifer Lane says that all it took was one date with Brandon Pearlman to know he was the one. “Things just clicked,” she recalls of their first conversation over drinks in 2007. Five years later, Pearlman proposed while vacationing in Florida, and the pair began planning their July 20 nuptials at the Peninsula Chicago (108 E. Superior).
‘We wanted to give people an alternative, a place to wear what you want, drink what you want,” says Benjamin Schiller, lauded cocktail connoisseur and beverage director at the recently opened Berkshire Room. The classic cocktail bar, named for the Berkshire Hotel (which occupied the spot’s current Acme Hotel digs, just off Michigan Avenue, during the 1920s), is the brainchild of Greg Mohr and Scott Weiner of Fifty/50 restaurant group.
Splash celebrated one year of style Aug. 29, surrounded by 300 friends at the Underground (56 W. Illinois). Guests such as Splash columnist and “America’s Next Top Model” winner Jaslene Gonzalez, Macy’s Andrea Schwartz and Rockit Ranch Production’s Arturo Gomez, plus friends Amy Olson, Chris Dexter, Charles Hocevar and Cathie Haley, sipped Peroni and Santa Margherita prosecco and wine while jamming to tunes from DJ Megan Taylor.
More than 300 guests brought their appetites to Pioneer Court (401 N. Michigan) Aug. 27 for A Magnificent Taste. Chefs, including Table 52’s Art Smith, Frontera Grill and Topolobampo’s Rick Bayless and Little Market’s Ryan Poli, served up seasonal treats at the food-centric event, which was part of the second week of the Magnificent Mile Shopping Festival, presented by MasterCard.
