My cousin Kate recently became a mommy for the first time to a beautiful baby boy. After a recent conversation with her about how life has changed and her feelings about her impending return to work, I felt like many of my readers could relate.
I happened to be a part of a large conversation with a group of moms recently when the topic turned to this image: What a ruckus this simple yet so complicated question created.
When I went to college I remember thinking, “Why am I here? I’m probably going to get married in the next few years, stay home and make babies.” I always had such an innate yearning to have kids of my own, and never thought in a million years I would be one of those moms who chose to work instead of staying home and raising their kids.
I had a friend recently say to me, “I’m stuck in a rut!” I replied, “What does that mean, exactly?” She said, “Nothing is going my way. I’m bored and can’t get out of this mundane path I’m on.”

My favorite aunt passed away this week, and I lost 10 lbs. of water weight due to tears. She was no ordinary aunt. She was one of those people that you would do anything for because of the kind spirit she was: angelic, sweet, loving and giving.

Do you ever have days where you can actually relate to those dumb celebrities that check themselves into a hospital for exhaustion? Has the thought of laying in one of those crunchy-sheet twin beds with people poking you and serving you salisbury steak with soggy green beans ever sounded like sheer paradise, simply because you knew you could nap all day without your phone ringing, your email dinging and people needing every ounce of your attention? Granted, these things would still be happening — you just wouldn’t have to deal with it because doctor’s orders are for you to “get some rest.”
As brave and as confident as you think you may be, there always seems to be a shadow of doubt and fear holding people back from attempting to accomplish certain dreams. Think back to when you were a little kid. Chances are you had some pretty big pipe dreams and you told everyone and anyone that would listen how you were going to be a singer, a policeman or president of the United States of America.
