While Hollywood royalty took the stage at the 86th annual Academy Awards March 2, local filmmakers were lauded at Gene Siskel Film Center’s (164 N. State) Hollywood on State: A Red Carpet Celebration. XA PR exec Amanda Puck and RL Restaurant GM Rich Varnes presided over the red carpet, where guests posed for pictures and enjoyed bites by Pure Kitchen Catering and cocktails by Naked Grape, Barefoot Bubbly and Baileys. Movie lovers then stocked up on popcorn and sweets by Magnolia Bakery and Eli’s Cheesecake and headed into the Film Center’s two theaters to take in the awards show. Later, all eyes were on honorees Maria Finitzo, Stephen Cone, Ky Dickens and Pamela Sherrod Anderson, local filmmakers who were recognized for their work. With the help of a live auction — which included Robert Downey Jr.’s autographed “Iron Man” helmet — the evening raised more than $53,000 to benefit the Film Center.
