Thousands of partygoers flocked to A. Finkl & Sons Co. (2011 N. Southport) Sept. 7 for Chicago Gateway Green’s 22nd annual Green Tie Ball. The steel factory’s property was transformed into a Wonka Wonderland with help from green-lit tents and characters from “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory,” who mingled and stopped for photo ops with guests. Restaurants from across the city cooked up sample-sized dishes, fueling attendees for a night of partying. “Windy City Live” co-hosts Val Warner and Ryan Chiaverini took the stage to thank co-chairs Lee and Sandy Golub and vice co-chairs Grigory Pekarsky and Molly Bromiley before introducing Chicago native and rapper Lupe Fiasco, whose DJ set kept the crowd on their feet until after midnight.
The Sun-Times was the media sponsor of this event. The Sun-Times Foundation and the Chicago Community Trust will match every dollar donated to Gateway Green, up to a total of $10,000. Up to $1,000 can be matched per individual donation.
