The Young Women’s Leadership Charter School of Chicago hit a high note March 5 at its fifth annual Girl Power luncheon, held at the Hilton Chicago (720 S. Michigan). Nearly 1,000 guests turned out to celebrate the school and its partnership with the Lyric Opera of Chicago; the two organizations are working together to create programs that immerse young women in the arts and empower them to explore unconventional career paths. Grammy-winning soprano Ana María Martínez presented the keynote address, and more than $500,000 was raised to help the school continue to provide educational, leadership and college prep programs for its students and to preserve its 100 percent college acceptance rate.
