One thing I can tell you about Chicago is that you can’t mess with the fans here. We support celebs and athletes that make us happy. Plain and simple. This city pulls together like we all went to the same high school, so the moment you cross us, eek!
The Midwest is the heart of America. Oprah was no dummy having her show here. She knows that public opinion matters and we do count for a lot of ratings and sales. That being said, when I heard Rihanna showed up four hours late to a Barrington High School appearance honoring the students for their charity work, I knew it would make headlines.
She tweeted a pic of herself in traffic saying, “Chicago traffic is not working.” Mind you, I have been in Chicago traffic daily and I can tell you that she is right. Our traffic blows during rush hour, but that is always why I give an extra hour of driving time no matter what. Unless they closed the freeway and it was the bottleneck from hell, I have to assume she was also personally running behind.
She obviously got in trouble, trouble, trouble. Oh wait, wrong artist. When she did arrive to the event, reports are stating that she stayed 15 minutes and then said goodbye. If that were me, I would have stayed and shaken hands with everyone there to make up for it. But then again, I’m not the number one recording artist in the country. Her schedule is a tad busier than mine.
Another tardy tart, Nicki Minaj, was recently in trouble for showing up 15 minutes late for the first live “American Idol show.” So, what’s the deal?
Is this a trend that I’m too old to understand? Not to toot my own horn, but I have never showed up late for one job in 20 years. So, that’s why it’s hard for me to comprehend.
Who is to blame in this last incident, Chicago traffic or Rihanna and her team not getting her out the door in time? What do you guys think?
