On Nov. 8 board members, teachers and supporters of the Academy for Urban School Leadership took a night off to celebrate 11 years of turning around the city’s underperforming schools. Joining them at the organization’s inaugural gala at the Ritz-Carlton Chicago were 500 guests, including Mayor Rahm Emanuel, Eve Rogers, Eve Tyree and Mark Furlong, who turned out to honor the AUSL as the largest turnaround organization in the country. This year it helped improve 25 low-income, chronically failing schools and will be back to work with Chicago Public Schools in 2013 for more high marks.
The Chicago Sun-Times was the media sponsor of this event. The Sun-Times Foundation and The Chicago Community Trust will match donations to the Academy for Urban School Leadership, up to $15,000, now until Feb. 1, 2013. Donate now here.
