Folds of Honor Fundraiser

Posted by Splash Staff on 28 Jul 2012

Guests at Folds of Honor mingled with decorated military vets Guests at the Folds of Honor fund-raiser held at a stately manse in Inverness last Saturday night couldn’t help but feel patriotic. As they pulled up to the home, dozens of American flags beckoned along a winding driveway; once inside the dinner tent, wounded vets mingled with more than 300 guests, including local dignitaries like Rear Admiral. Dave Steindl (the Navy’s highest-ranked officer in Chicago). But it was the program — which included speeches by Air Force widow Ginger Gilbert Ravella and scholarship recipient Sarah White, whose late father was an Air Force fighter pilot — that moved guests to tears. (It was a good thing boxes of Kleenex had been thoughtfully placed at every table.) The event raised nearly $300,000 to provide scholarships to the families of American veterans from all military branches who have been killed or wounded. The Sun-Times was the media sponsor of this event. Story by Susanna Negovan | Photos by Ramzi Dreessen
